I started play this game since 1992 when I was already 23 (not like other young people on the list :-).) I used it only for killing time until a friend of mine showed me his record of less than 90 in expert games in late 1994, when I was still wandering around 130. I got pretty close to 100 not long after and then got stuck. I found my problem was that I couldn't use both of my forefinger and middle figer as quickly at the same time. So I started to play without flagging in 1995 and focused only on expert games. Quite a while after that I broke the 100 barrier and kept going down in time. When I got into the 60's in 1997, I thought that was my end and stopped playing for a while. One day I saw a post on a BBS in Taiwan saying that there are people trying to break into the 50's and that reignite my passion to this game. Honestly I didn't think it was possible to get into 50's but I still picked it up again and gave it a try. I got my first 58 in 1998, which really supprised me and kicked my passion up one level. I got into 50's several times before I got my best in 2000, which was 52. I sent my friends the screenshot and some of them didn't believe it. Well, I wouldn't believed it either if I didn't see it myself. Afterwards I got a couple more 50's but never better. Again I though that was my end until last week I found The Authoritative Minesweeper page and saw there are scores much better than mine. Now I am playing again and hope to break my records soon.
